The game started an hour late due to the rain.

Aoshima (#1 RHP) was chosen to start the game for Tokai Sagami. Sagami carries four high quality pitchers and their lineup produced eleven homers in the Kanagawa preliminary. How the Morioka’s ace pitcher, Matsumoto who is considered as one of the best pitchers in the tournament would face the Sagami’s tough lineup is a key for the game.

Morioka’s Matsumoto mainly used off-speed balls, reserving his famous fastball. He combined two seams, slow curve and slider. Matsumoto was showing his consistent accuracy throughout the game although his fastball hardly clocked beyond 140 km/h. Sagami’s Aoshima struck out three batters in the first inning. His fastball looked even faster than the clock’s record of 142 km/h. The Morioka’s lineup, however, pulled off Aoshima in the inning 6 when the Sagami’s ace struggled to locate his fastball and slider. The Iwate prefecture representative, Morioka Univ. Affiliated HS did not let those pitches go. 5th batter Endo who hit a homerun in the second inning connected a single to left to bring a runner home. 7th hitter Tatsunami who has contributed to the team with his glove at shortstop hit a single to bring two runners home.

Sagami brought three pitchers. Ogasawara (#10 LHP)  who took over from Aoshima during inning 6 did his job, did not allow any runs and struck out three hitters in his 1 1/3 appearance. Yoshida (#11 RHP) who pitched inning 8 and 9 struck out three hitters did not allow any walks or hits.

Sagami showed the team effort, scoring one run in the bottom of 9 after two outs were taken. The well trained Kanagawa reperesentative of 190 school did not make any errors in the defense.

Morika finally picks up their first win at Koshien on their eighth appearance to the summer national tournament. Coach Sekiguchi of Morioka says he appreciates his players’ hard work. Atomosphare of the dugout had been good although we were losing until inning 5.
