Another close battle in the first round. Saku Seiryo threatened in the bottom of the third, but the Tokai ace used his slider to force a pop-fly out with runners at the corner.
Tokai countered in the fourth with a lead-off hit but the runner was picked off at first to end the momentum. Saku Seiryo scored first with a solo home run by Takeuchi, their number five batter in the bottom of the fourth. Tokai came right back with a run in the top of the fifth after two hits, but left two runners stranded. Saku Seiryo replaced their number two pitcher with their ace, Orozumi in the 7th, and Tokai found him impossible to hit – he struck out two batters in the ninth and ended the game with a sharp slap to third for the out.
Saku Seiryo scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth with a timely hit, and added another in the eighth, while Tokai was held scoreless by Orozumi. Both teams ended up with five hits in this classic duel of Japanese baseball.
